Page type: Application guide

Applications

Specialty compound, high-purity oxide and functional powder sourcing for electronic and optoelectronic material development.

[Narrow your material choices](<https://powdchem.com/applications/electronics-semiconductors/#first-choice>) [Ask about your requirement](<https://powdchem.com/request-a-quote/?topic=Electronics+%26+semiconductor+materials>)

## Does the material need to store charge or conduct it?

A shared oxide label does not make dielectric and conductive powders interchangeable.

Narrow your material shortlist

| Your requirement | Start by comparing | What can change the choice | Explore materials |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Your component needs dielectric behavior | A titanate base chemistry or formulated MLCC powder | Specify the temperature target, electrode and firing process. The device, not loose powder alone, establishes capacitance performance. | [Barium titanate powder (BaTiO3)](<https://powdchem.com/products/ceramic-powders/electronic-functional-ceramics/#pc-168>)[Strontium titanate powder (SrTiO3)](<https://powdchem.com/products/ceramic-powders/electronic-functional-ceramics/#pc-169>)[Calcium zirconate powder (CaZrO3)](<https://powdchem.com/products/ceramic-powders/electronic-functional-ceramics/#pc-174>) |
| Your formulation needs electrical conduction | ITO, ATO or AZO | Dopant level and specimen preparation matter. Check conductivity in the intended film or composite. | [Indium tin oxide powder (Sn-doped In2O3 / ITO)](<https://powdchem.com/products/ceramic-powders/electronic-functional-ceramics/#pc-178>)[Antimony tin oxide powder (Sb-doped SnO2 / ATO)](<https://powdchem.com/products/ceramic-powders/electronic-functional-ceramics/#pc-179>)[Aluminum-doped zinc oxide powder (Al-doped ZnO / AZO)](<https://powdchem.com/products/ceramic-powders/electronic-functional-ceramics/#pc-180>) |
| Your task is optical emission or a phosphor | The specified host and dopant | A host powder and an activated phosphor are different requests; match the excitation and emission conditions. | [Yttrium aluminum garnet powder (Y3Al5O12)](<https://powdchem.com/products/laboratory-powders/optical-phosphor-materials/#pc-281>)[Cerium-doped YAG phosphor powder ((Y(1-x)Cex)3Al5O12)](<https://powdchem.com/products/laboratory-powders/optical-phosphor-materials/#pc-282>)[Calcium fluoride powder (CaF2)](<https://powdchem.com/products/laboratory-powders/optical-phosphor-materials/#pc-284>) |

Start with the task closest to yours. The examples identify material requests; a proposed grade still needs to fit your process and evaluation.

## MLCC and dielectric formulation

Choose a base chemical when you formulate the dielectric yourself. Use the MLCC page for route-specific BTO and formulated X5R, X7R or C0G/NP0 target requests.

Schematic, not to scale. Chemistry, electrode system and firing conditions must work together.

## Doped conductive oxides

ITO, ATO and AZO are different doped-oxide systems. Include the dopant level and whether the request is for loose powder or another supplied form.

## Prepare a useful comparison

A reference datasheet or your existing material code is useful. If you are still exploring, describe what you are making and which result needs to change.

- Compound, dopant/ratio and phase
- Critical impurities and analytical basis
- Particle profile and intended processing route
- Device/material test conditions and documents
