What are boron nitride nanosheets?

BNNS are thin sheets of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). For powder selection, compare the width of a sheet, its thickness and its surface condition.

The formula BN identifies the chemistry. CAS 10043-11-5 is a general boron nitride reference and does not establish nanosheet morphology.

When to consider this material

BN nanosheets have been studied as fillers in polymer composites, including epoxy thermal-transport studies. For a formulation study, state the resin or other host material, dispersion route and properties you intend to measure. Results from a particular research composite do not establish the performance of a different powder or finished system.

Choose a BNNS size profile

Start with sheet width and thickness. Two powders can have similar thickness but very different lateral dimensions.

ProfileLateral sizeThicknessPublished purityWhen to compare
Reference A~100 nm5–20 nm99.5+%Assay basis to confirmA smaller lateral-size reference. Use it when sheet width is a constraint in your coating or composite study.Request this profile
Reference B~1 µm~20 nm≥98.5%Assay basis to confirmA micron-wide reference. Compare it with A if lateral size is part of your experiment; thickness ranges overlap.Request this profile

These profiles come from published product specifications. They are inquiry references; the offered grade, availability and supporting data are confirmed before quotation. Surface treatment and measurement methods are not established by these figures.

For a first comparison, keep the resin, powder content and mixing process the same. A higher listed purity does not, by itself, establish better dispersion or thermal performance.

Choose the supplied form

Choose dry powder for your own mixing. A surface treatment or a prepared dispersion adds different requirements.

BN nanosheet powder: request targets and verification questions
RequirementWhat to stateWhat to verify
Material identity & phaseBN, requested h-BN phase and dry nanosheet formThe name, phase description and offered material refer to the same product; CAS alone does not establish nanosheet morphology
Lateral dimensionsTarget in-plane dimensions, distribution and acceptable rangeThe reported size describes the sheet, rather than an agglomerate, with the method identified
Thickness / layersRequested thickness or layer-related requirementEvidence for the stated thickness; a lateral size value does not answer this question
Purity & compositionPurity basis, critical impurities and moisture constraintsWhat the purity claim includes, the test method and whether results refer to the offered grade or lot
Surface conditionUnmodified or requested functionalization; other treatment restrictionsThe offered product is not a different functionalized derivative or liquid formulation
Evaluation evidenceEssential microscopy, composition, phase or other data; sample quantityAFM height profiles can address sheet thickness; microscopy can examine lateral dimensions and morphology. Ask which preparation, method and sample the result represents, and whether further testing is needed

Lateral size and thickness

A sheet can be described across its surface and through its thickness. Request both when both affect your evaluation.

Commercial names such as nanosheets, nanoplates and thin platelets can describe different dimensional ranges. Compare the stated dimensions and supporting evidence instead of relying on the name alone.

Sourcing & supply.

Bring the quantity you need and the specification that matters.

Tell us the evaluation or production quantity you need. Nike has no fixed MOQ; we’ll check supplier pack sizes and any minimums.

Before quoting, we confirm the proposed grade and form, availability, timing, packaging and destination requirements. Include any batch documents you need.

If you need a sample or additional microscopy, we’ll confirm the scope and cost. Any missing specification or evidence will be identified in the response.

BNNS questions

Which sizes and purities can I ask about?

The selection references cover a ~100 nm lateral-size profile with 5–20 nm thickness, and a ~1 µm profile with ~20 nm thickness. Listed purities are 99.5+% and ≥98.5%, respectively; their assay basis needs confirmation. These are starting points for an inquiry. We confirm the actual grade, evidence and availability with the proposed source.

Can I start without a complete specification?

Yes. Send the material name and what you are trying to evaluate. Include a reference paper, grade or datasheet if you have one so the important requirements can be clarified.

Can I request microscopy or a sample?

Include both in the inquiry if they are essential. We confirm which evidence and sample options are available for the proposed grade, and discuss any additional testing scope or cost separately.

What if an option does not meet a critical requirement?

We’ll identify the difference before you proceed. You can then compare another candidate, request the missing evidence or evaluate a sample.
