Functional Pigments

Effect and functional pigment powders for formulation studies. Specify the mechanism, matrix and performance question alongside color and appearance.

Powder material specimens; appearance reference

Choose a material

Pearlescent and color-shifting pigments

Compare the substrate, coating system and particle profile. Judge an appearance sample in the intended binder, coating thickness and viewing conditions.

Color-shifting pigment powder

color-shifting interference pigment powder (multilayer composition is grade-specific)

Multilayer pigment; composition varies

Temperature- and light-responsive pigments

Choose the response mechanism, then the activation range and processing limits. Use the intended binder and curing conditions when comparing samples.

Thermochromic pigment powder

thermochromic functional pigment powder (color-change system is grade-specific)

Thermochromic system; composition varies

Photochromic pigment powder

photochromic functional pigment powder (photoresponsive system is grade-specific)

Photochromic system; composition varies

Daylight fluorescent pigments

Record the color target, carrier and binder compatibility. A photograph cannot establish the appearance or stability of the finished formulation.

Daylight fluorescent pigment powder

daylight fluorescent pigment powder (fluorescent colorant system is grade-specific)

Fluorescent colorant + carrier

Material selection guide

Start with the material identity and process, then check the details on the proposed datasheet.

Function & chemistry

Distinguish pearlescent, color-shifting, thermochromic, photochromic and fluorescent systems. A color label alone is not a material specification.

Matrix & processing

Describe resin or host, solvent, curing temperature, shear and loading. Include surface treatment and dispersion constraints.

Test conditions

Define the coating thickness, substrate and exposure conditions behind optical or functional targets. Ask which data applies to the candidate grade.

Before you choose

Can a pigment's catalogue effect be promised in any formulation?

The final effect depends on the matrix, loading, substrate and processing. Use a representative formulation test to compare candidates rather than transferring a seller's promotional result.

What does this directory cover?

This is a powder-material directory, not a finished-paint range. Conventional thermal fillers have their own category.

What to include in your request

A material name or reference datasheet is enough to start. Add any requirements you already know.

  • Functional mechanism and composition family
  • Particle size, morphology and surface treatment
  • Matrix, solvent, loading and process temperature
  • Appearance target and test conditions

Quantity, samples and documents

Nike has no fixed minimum order. Tell us the quantity you need; we’ll check supplier pack sizes and any minimums.

We’ll check the proposed grade, sample options, delivery timing and available batch documents. Include any essential COA, TDS or SDS requirements.
